Held, Not Fixed — Exploring Our Relationship with Dependency
A closed therapy group for people navigating a difficult relationship with a substance or behaviour.
Dependency is rarely helped by being lectured at, judged, or reduced to a diagnosis. This group starts from a different premise: behind every dependency there is a person with a complex relationship to something that, at some point, has served a purpose, even when it has also become costly or difficult to control.
Across nine weekly sessions, participants will explore what their dependency gives them, what it takes from them, and what needs or emotions may lie underneath it. Together, the group will examine patterns, triggers, ambivalence, and the possibilities for change, while recognising that change is rarely straightforward or linear.
The group is not about telling people what they should do. It is about creating a space where participants can become more curious about their own relationship with alcohol, drugs, gambling, food, pornography, or other behaviours, and begin to identify where they have choice, agency, and room for something different.
Sessions combine open group discussion with experiential and reflective exercises, allowing participants not only to talk about dependency but to explore and experience their relationship to it in new ways.
Held rather than fixed: a space to be met where you are, while exploring where you might want to go next.
All our groups take place in a supportive environment where you are free to participate in the way that feels right for you. Share if you wish, listen quietly, or simply be present. There is no pressure to open up before you are ready. We meet regularly, and over time, the group often becomes a place of recognition and relief. A safe space where things begin to make a little more sense, where new perspectives can emerge naturally, and where you can try out different ways of thinking, feeling, and relating.
